Taking Lives

A dear colleague was recently hospitalized.

She underwent a major operation and it happened at a very bad time.

Our HMO is on the brink of filing for Chapter 11. Yes, another recession victim bites the dust.

With no assistance from our health care provider, my friend shouldered all expenses.

She has contacted our HMO several times to no avail. As to her inquiry if she can be reimbursed, this was the company’s reply: “We don’t know. We’re not sure.”

That’s scary. Imagine being in her shoes. That is certainly not a fun ride.

Moral of the story: Always save for a rainy day.

that's true... nakakatakot talaga kapag di mo maasahan yung dapat tumulong sa pagpapagamot mo... kelangan talaga matuto magtipid.

gillboard, Tama ka dyan. Kaya yun kikitain ko sa Clark sa buong linggo di ko gagalawin. Promise. Hehe

this is very true. The unstability of HMOs and the saving up for the rainy days. Let's just pray for better times. Pno na kaya pag nagkasakit ung mga less fortunate talaga, di ba?

Hirap talaga magkasakit ngayon. May sakit na, mabobroke pa sa mahal ng hospital and medical expenses. My coworker has cancer and advice nya, wag daw dapat mag-ipon ng sama ng loob para iwas cancer:)

Raft3r said...

len, Tama. Bawal ang ubos biyaya. Hehe.

wendy, That's the nicest advice I have heard in awhile.

amen to that. you just reminded me of the michael moore docu-movie. made me wanna migrate to canada or uk or france.

when my dad had a kidney transplant some few years ago, our HMO, aetna, was able to shoulder only 1/4 of the whole deal.

the surgery was done on st luke's with my dad having 8 doctors on him and another 8 on the person giving the new kidney to him. do the math.

Raft3r said...

atticus, Pahirapan na talaga ire. Hehe

jerick, Hay. I'm bad with numbers. Hehe

Raft3r said...

eden, Nyahaha. Totoo yan sinasabi mo. Hehe

prinsesamusang, Pray na lang tayo na di magkasakit. Hehe

paulette, Hehe. Yan kasi pag di 8-5 ang work. Hehe. May contribution ka at may contribution din ang employer mo. Syempre wala naman tayo magagawa kung bigla na lang ma-bankrupt yun health provider nyo. Walang habol talaga. Yan ang buhay empleyado. Hehe

just last month, the company i worked with changed its HMO provider. the previous one offers better coverage than the HMO we have now. cost cutting decisions by our company i guess.

Raft3r said...

smartchic, Yes. It's the employees who suffer. Sad but true.

i cud only sigh in disbelief because those things can really happen to everyone. insurance and health care should serve their purpose.

Raft3r said...

lawstude, Kawawa ka talaga pag wala kang pera. Hay

ahhh ganun pala yon! yikes nakakatakot naman yon... its better nalang na walang ganyan kasi at least hindi ka masyadong kampante na merong tutulong incase magkasakit ka di ba? unlike ako na walang benefits or mga health chu-chu then talagang ipon para i know na may dudukutin incase of emergency.

Raft3r said...

paulette, That is a nice way of looking at things.

if we file a class suit, will you be our lawyer? lol!
